For some reason, at our last production with rod puppets the phrase 
"break a stick" was floating around.


And that reminds me, I know an amazing puppeteer who breaks the 3/16 
inch dowels I use for for hand controls. The solution to the problem 
was to use carbon fiber tubing for the controls, same size, lighter, 
stiffer and they will never break.
