Aaaaaaaah Bib Puppets!
There is a great Australian Ensemble called Puppelele... a Ukeleleh
orchestra played by "humanettes" but my favorite is with Terrapin Puppets in
Tasmania and built by Tim Denton.
In the foyer is an old (very old) scout tent with large holes all over it.
When you put your face into the holes and look inside there is a theatre set
in which stories are told and a stage for small shows. The interesting thing
is the thirty odd audience have become "humanettes" and some have the option
of operating the feet or hands! Mind you from out side the tent the sight of
thirty odd people with their heads stuck in a tent...often with bums thrust
out...is a pretty funny sight too!
Msr. J'Villiard from the 20's fairgrounds was very popular....false hands
held a harmonica to the puppeteers lips while they operated the feet in a
jig to the music...have seen some pretty good contemporary performances but
no original photo's.
D.
