I don't know how common it is to do this, but sometimes a separate 
singer is used to record a song when the actor who does the talking 
is not really up to the task.  It can be done without the audience 
detecting the difference.  So, yes, to some extent the talking voice 
is different than the singing voice.

To comment more directly on what I think your question may be... I 
think that if a single puppeteer does all the voices in a production, 
their various singing voices tends to merge towards a single 
"voice".    I think a lot of the individual's character is maintained 
by way the song is written, and less so by the way he sings an 
"Aaaaaaah".  Still, there is room for a singing voice to be more 
nasal, soft, or harsher than other characters.
