I want to thank everyone who commented on this.
I see I allowed myself to continue the ill-fated conversation a bit too long, which only made it more possible for more misunderstandings on the person's part.

The person sent me another personal email, telling me that he/she was unsubscribing from puptcrit because of me and my taking it "public". What's wrong with that, if I removed any clue of gender and name? The text was all in red, which I interpret (perhaps falsely) as being un-related to christmas, despite the "happy Hollidays" finish line.

I will take the person's advice to heart, just in case:
"YOU published the whole thing in an attempt to get sympathy - and don't deny that is what it is."
"I have only one thing to say to you GROW UP and stop acting like a spoiled child."

Well, I like sympathy, but this wasn't really about that. I just wanted to understand, see what I had done wrong.
And growing up (at least in the general boring grown-up definition) is not in my plans.
