Hi Dan,
Kumbowa, or maybe it's Konichiwa where you are, but it's night here.
You can check and see if the National Bunraku Theater is performing in Tokyo this weekend. They are based in Osaka but tour a little and one of there stops is a major hall in Tokyo. Sorry, I don't know the name of the hall. Do a google search for the National Bunraku Theater and see if they have a touring schedule.
PUK Puppet Theater is located in Tokyo and is not too far from one of the train stops. I can't recall which one though. (It's been almost 20 years since I last toured there.) They do some really good work. I imagine they have a web site as well.
Also the UNIMA-Japan site should have some connections or suggestions for you.
Good luck and enjoy your 36 hours there. My shortest stay there was about 10 days and my longest was about 9 months. Both flew by, so I can't imagine only having 36 hours!
Christopher

>I've got about 36 hours to spend in Japan while on my way to Indonesia. I fly into Narita, and I wonder if anyone knows of puppet related activities in Tokyo this weekend? In particular, I wonder about any bunraku theater, a place where I can get a close look at these puppets? Museum are also a possibility. What can a puppet fan see in such a short time? Thanks for any suggestions on or off list - A postcard will go to anyone with a helpful suggestion.
