Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] humanettes

There were lots of books published between 1880 and 1920 on conjuring or
general entertainments with tiles like "101 Things For A Boy To Do"
However, I have found the best practical reference to be the large
hardbound book "Introducing Bill's Magic" by William Stickland published
by Supreme Magic Co in 1970 and reprinted in 1976. There is a 20 page
chapter entitled "Living Marionettes" with photos showing construction
of staging nd figures with presentation ideas. I do not know if the book
is still available. I recall seeing Bill Stickland performing in 1952
and one of things I remember was that the puppet's hand was holding a
match which it struck on the sole of its shoe in order to light a
cigarette in the performer's mouth.
Best wishes
Ray DaSilva
