Actually I do use automative paint...I think that ws in the post to 
mathieu......the price of a good spray paint unit now makes it worthwhile to 
invest in and discard spray cans. Automative acrylics are FAR superior to 
ordinary acrylics and the use of a thinners is far superior to water as a 
carriage (the stuff that transports the paint from tin to object). So for 
$70 US for the unit WITH spray guns etc and $30 for four liters of flesh 
tinted acrylic you have a life time supply!!!!! Of course ordinary acrylics 
and enamels paint over very well and as you say the base coat is hard and 
long wearing!.
