Subject: [Puptcrit] Magic Flute


Overall, I was thrilled to see the production on PBS out of Milwaukee.
But I do have a couple of questions and a couple of comments.  First,
what were the women's chorus costumes supposed to convey?  They looked
like abstracted nuns habits.  It has been so long since I've seen a live
production of MF I can't remember whether or not a women's chorus was
ever on stage.  It certainly is not in keeping with the masonic ritual
and milieu of the temple.  Secondly, as a fan of Julie Taymor's
artistry, I was disappointed that she used so many visuals associated
with other productions.

Taymor fortunate to have such an agile and musically superb cast.
