Hi, Mathieu!

I have to say I greatly admire, and am somewhat envious of, your fashion sense. I find I grow more and more conservative as I age. Frankly, I'd rather be moving in the other direction! I love old ladies with long braids and lots of "ethnic" jewelry. My favorite thing to wear is a bulky sweater, filmy full skirt and clunky boots, although I'd go barefoot if I could get away with it.

Tangentially related, whenever I attend a conference I come home with "The Fashion Report". At library conferences, you see a lot of navy suits and comfortable shoes. Teachers wear lots of jumpers and "cute" sweaters. Storytellers prefer colorful, sometimes mismatched outfits with unusual accessories. I was surprised to see, when I attended my first puppetry festival, that puppeteers looked like regular people. That is, until one of my storytelling friends pointed out that puppeteers are trying to blend into the background!

Hi fashion makers!
Hello Fashion victims!
I'm both, how about you?

The following is partly me being a show-off, parlty me wanting to start a thread about what artists wear as a non-uniform, perhaps to advertise or merely celebrate the artistic work they do.

People who have just met me remember one thing about my clothes, it's almost as if I could wear nothing else and get away with it.
They remember my frog hat, which is a simple Kangol golf hat onto which I attached some modified safety eyes (frog).

See it here:
http://maskmaking.blogspot.com/2007/01/my-fashion-statement-part-trois-winter.html

I needed a version for winter, to protect my wimpy ears against the cold.
So I made two winter hats that were much more wackier, (scroll down the blog for previous posts entitled "Fashion Statements"), but they don't fit with my better winter coat.

Today I finally found a classy felt hat which I also attached eyes to.
Me likes.

This strange fashion statement is about the only one I make. So far, I have not been forbidden entrance to public places, but it might change with these eyes, which are my biggest and boldest yet.

I do it for fun, of course, but also for five other reasons:
-I can use it as a segway to talk about my work (and give a business card when they seem interested). I hope It also inspires people to try stuff like that too.
-Great way to identify myself. Whenever I have to meet someone new, I tell them I have eyes on my hat.
-I'm shy: it helps me reach people (great conversation starter, ladies I met seem to really like the whimsical aspect)
-I love provoking smiles in people. The city life is grey enough as it is, why be boring? So who cares if some people judge me as ridiculous?
-I love having my very own thing, nobody else has a hat like this (so far).

What wacky or just funny thing do you wear during work, or even day-to-day?
