Subject: [Puptcrit] Spooky Half-disguises INVASION

Half-disguised actors are perhaps trying to take over the puppet scene!
You can see them in lots of shows!

The puppets I've seen on the site Kid Fitness website look awesome and alive!

Too bad they have to share the "stage" with spookily attired actors. I never understood the appeal of dressing an actor in a good animal or creature costme, and ruining it with a cheap makeup, where the face is still obviously a human face. Why not use at least a nose prosthesis to make the character believable?

I guess budget is part of the decision, and there is a fashion of those types of characters that have been around for a while on TV. Perhaps some "specialists" deemed full prosthesis makeup would be too frightening to children?
Of cours,e papmer the kids until everything is just perfectly cute and cuddly in their world, and then see what happens (perhaps panic) when they suddenly discover the variety of the real world is not all pink and fuzzy!

Don't try to bribe me with the argument that at least this makeup technique leaves space for the kid's imagination.
I truly can't imagine these characters as being believable, no matter how good the actors are. None of those I've seen even hinted the possibility for me, even as a kid. It would only be a compromise I would do to try to follow the story, and to me, these mental adjustments are just ruining my viewing experience.

Plus, these half-disguised actors, next to the puppets, come and bring an element of disbelief, just by their obviously faked faces. They already look weak, but they also could make the puppets look less believable, by the contrast.

Can someone try and bring this pet peeve of mine to an end? Are there good arguments for these half-disguises?
Or are they all just conventions that are being kept alive just for convenience? (less expensive, more comfortable for the actors, less setup time...whatever happened to giving your all for the sake of the show?).
