Subject: [Puptcrit] CORRECTION re: Chinese man who had a heart attack while

I made a major typo: the Taiwan TV puppet show was about battling puppet troops or SOLDIER PUPPETS,, not battling puppeteer troupes. If it had been the latter, several of us might have had heart attacks if we had seen that show.

Many years ago at the Los Angeles County Fair Art Building, I prepared a demonsration of Chinese Shadow puppets, with daily presentations. I met a long-time (1920s or early 1930s) immigrant from China who could have seen the old style Chinese shadows in his original homeland, but had not done so, preferring to see only the MODERN moving pictures instead.

After seeing my presentation, he came to regret not seeing the shadow theater of his birth-country. Being up-to-date is fine and dandy, but Modern Media does not always provide the QUALITY of classic forms of theater. That is just one reason traditional puppet theater forms need to be preserved.
