Aden,

Puppetry is used in Public, Private, and Home Schooling education. 
Children and some Adult Psychotherapist use puppetry.
They are also used in Children hospitals and used for teaching Children 
and Adults with special needs. The Corporate world uses puppetry for in 
house program exploration and for some team working seminars.  They are 
also used as Corporate ID characters.

They are found in every culture in the world in one form or another, 
usually used as an educational or story telling tool.  O.K. that is just
off the top of my head.  Next, I'm sure that others can give you other
areas that it is use.
