The puppets are nice. Great costumes. You say the
Bross-Roser control but the sculpture does not reflect
their design principles. Have you not made your own
control yet (a Rene control) or do you prefer their
control but not their sculpture?
Good work.

Thanks Yvette.
I don't know exactly what you mean by the design principles. You see, I'm
still a beginner when it comes to mechanics and especially in marionette
articulations. My old attempts at controllers (3 humans, two biped birds)
were not adequate for the actions we were after. So I used the professional
controller model that was available to me. One of the puppeteers had a used
controller which he lent to me. I replicated it, and it fit with my puppets,
just as it did with the puppets he used this model on, despite their
differences in size and proportions (with adjustments). I'm talking about
the vertical controller, equipped with a swivelling front part (shape of a
wing activated by index finger) to make the puppet walk. I removed extra
finger triggers that were designed to add some life in some areas, because
we did not need them and they were hindering our efforts. The marionette
strings were not permanently glued, we just looped them in the holes and
wrapped them around the parts, and used masking tape as a temporary holding
device. We needed to remove the strings and add some, depending on the
scene, because of the way the film was made. The Director insisted on
marionettes, but also insisted on a ceiling (despite our best effort to
convinve him to change to rod controls), and we even had to manipulate one
marionette from under a bed. You should have seen the strings and rods added
for that scene!

I gotta go back to work, big studio modifications to prepare for moldmaking
and latex casting of 6 TV caricature puppets.

Hi Mathieu,

You may need to check with a local entertainment
lawyer to be positive, but it is my understanding that
unless there is prior or previous agreement between
you and the producer or producers you should have full
right to show portfolio pictures, perhaps obscuring
the project name if you wanted to treat it delicately.
Again, it has been a while since I looked at the old
notes, but I just had a logo designed for my next film
series, all with upcoming marionettes, and the two d
computer graphics artist I hired and I both have
copies of the signed contract making sure I am the one
with the right to show the logo whereever I choose,
and I am the one who payed to have it designed and the
concept is my idea. So, dont be so quick to defend
your right to show the pictures, just relax and show
them. Especially if he or she does not respond to
emails or phone calls. If it is a serious issue, I
think they would get back to you quickly.
