Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Shakespeare and puppets

Hi, Rolande-
The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC had a production of
"Measure for Measure", directed by Aaron Posner, in which the comic
characters were played by life-sized puppets, manipulated by visible
actors. I was curious about whether it would work or not, especially
since "Measure for Measure" is such an odd piece to begin with. It was
successful. The puppets were used, quite well, to highlight the comedy,
putting it in contrast with the rest of the story.

I was lucky enough to see The Independent Eye's "Macbeth" at The
Performing Garage in New York. It was amazing. I refer to it, even today,
when I teach Shakespeare.
