Subject: [Puptcrit] Better Eyes from fishing floats?

Hi all. I'm finishing a kid dragon puppet, my first muppet-type with a full body. Pictures coming soon. His eyes are half fishing floats with some larger pupils added.

I couldn't find a better way to enlarge the pupil area, so I just shaped one over the white half with some epoxy putty. It's a bit bumpy, the putty must be too old, but with sanding, and varnish it looks "ok". I'd still like to get a better, more precise effect for my next puppets of the sort.
Next time I'll probably try to just fill the hole with some white-tinted epoxy putty, sand it when dry, use a circle template to draw the pupil size, then be very precise with the paint...
I own't use felt, as I much prefer shiny eyes over the "fabric" look.

What do you use as pupils over the fishing floats, when you need them bigger than the 10 mm hole in the middle?
Also, what do you use to cut or separate the float in half? I used the Dremel with cutting disk. It works, but there migth be a better trick...

Thanks!

Now moving on to the challenge of covering the same kind of puppet (same contract), but with a non-stretch fuzzy fabric. Yikes. I might give up and try to locate the same look in a stretch version...
