Subject: [Puptcrit] background checks/cori

For most schools now, parents who volunteer to go on field trips or
work in the classroom need a CORI check. Takes a few days and not
sure how much it really screens out the undesirables. Now that
I'm thinking about it, I don't know if the puppet troop we had a
few weeks ago at school had been Cori-d.

I know some of our other non-profit groups who have asked to use
school buildings for activities like Puppets: Ed Magic or a Filipino
literacy group were told that the school would be happy to let them
use the building, but I think there was some insurance involved
too which
we don't have.

Then there is the K of C (or town regulation) that requires the
volunteer coffeehouse use bought brownies and coffee from a bakery
rather than the home-made donations that the church venues can use.

Regulations, one of our town selectmen is trying to become king of
our town, wanting all sorts of accountings for a town committee
running a homecoming on the Common, that we have run for 10+
years . "but it isn't a personal vendetta" he says.

And we wonder why folks don't want to volunteer!
