Subject: [Puptcrit] Sarg/Alice in Wonderland toy puppets

Tony Sarg did a touring marionette version of Alice in Wonderland. An Alice marionette survived in Seattle up to 1982/3 and was then owned by Don George, a former Sarg puppereer who also worked with Johnny Faust's touring "Alice in Philcoland" for Philco kitchen appliances c 1948-9 Several of the Sarg marionettes Don had disappeared under strange circumstances when a "helper" may have thrown them in the garbage or may have taken them (they were wrapped in trashbags).

I am dubious about the Mme Alexander toy Sargs being copied from the Broadway ALICE, when Sarg toured his own version. Besides, the toy puppets did not all have the same detail (small and large were marketed by Mme Alexander---the smallest were very simple designs with a wire/wood controller copied from Czech designs---the bigger ones had more sculpting.
