Thanks all for the great info re: adhesives, celastic, latex,
etc. And Mathieu, your puppets are sooo wonderful, I sure would love
to see them in person and meet you, too. What a talent!

I'm self taught and taught by mom and grandma, mainly work with
paper mache', foam and cloth puppets, hand puppets, rod puppets. I
use a mixture of water, wallpaper paste and sculpt or coat when I
build mache' heads, and make props with the same. The sculpt and coat
adds extra toughness, and also allows for a smoother last finish to
fill in any cracks or nicks, and I do sand the final mache, add
another layer of sculpt or coat prior to painting. Expensive, but
non-toxic. Nice smooth woodlike finish. And I wear non sterile
medical gloves when I work, multiple gloves in a box, non latex, fit
tightly, so good control. I like the sculpt or coat matte varnish,
really protects the paint and puppets from dings and scratches thus
far. Plus, I pack my puppets nicely when travelling for shows.

My favorite adhesive has become "Gorilla glue" to make a really
strong bond when others such as 3 M ( I run out to my porch and do
the spraying for good vent.) or hot glue gun just won't do. Gorilla
glue is toxic, use with care, don't get it on your hands, and is an
expandable foam. I used it recently when I made a set of 3
bobblehead puppets to adhere the spring to the puppet head and to the
PVC pipe the bodies were attached to. Very tough and reliable for
adhering most things. Best if you rough up the PVC with sandpaper
before using. I use weldbond contact cement too for some gluing
foam to foam or other products - again running out on my porch for
vent.. Hope this info is helpful. I don't use latex molds and have
not gotten into mold making thus far.

Some of my puppets can be viewed on my website under "programs" and
"introducing the puppets" if anyone would like to check them out.

Great list, thanks pupcrit folks! (out of the lurker closet!)
