I think yellow will com out nice and bright. Don't use too hot water so not to burn the stocking. As for Lisa Lichtenfels, I wrote her on one occasions with the same question, and she recommended "doll skin", a fabric commonly used by doll makers for face. It comes in all sort of skin tones, and can be ordered through doll supply sites. I ordered a piece, but it wasn't like stockings, it was thick and none translucent (which is what I want). I think Lisa uses stockings. I even wrote to manufacturers, but never got a response from them. But I can tell you that the control top part of them dyes VERY well. I cut off the control top part of a white pair and then dye small pieces and use them for eye lids on some of my blinking eye puppets. I've never had any problem and I've used many variations and mixtures of powder dyes that are available at Joann's fabrics. Joann's fabrics also sells dance & swim wear fabric which is essentially spandex or spandex blends. It has a two way stretch, but isn't transparent like panty hose so I'm not sure what properties are priority for you. Hope this helps, =) -Michele -----Original Message----- From: puptcrit-bounces-AT-puptcrit.org [mailto:puptcrit-bounces-AT-puptcrit.org] On Behalf Of Klingelhoefer, Terri S Sent: Friday, June 08, 2007 12:05 PM To: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Subject: [Puptcrit] Quest for yellow panty hose Hi folks, Every year my mother in law does this "chick on a stick" Easter puppet thing. The best person to know if such a nylon material is sold by the yard would probably be Lisa Lichtenfels. Her amazing soft sculptures (Art Dolls and Puppets) are made of that nylon material (for the skin). Her website: http://www.lisalichtenfels.net/ judging by the awesome mermaid on her entrance page, I'd guess nylon fabric of this type can be dyed (tail and leg gradient is so subtle. Make sure to read the Techniques section, it's a good article about how she started and how she does it. http://www.lisalichtenfels.net/pages/technique.html ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2007 15:32:17 -0400 From: Ed Atkeson <edatkeson-AT-earthlink.net> Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] Quest for yellow panty hose To: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Message-ID: <badd5ef1db38fb81b25067f92a385ff3-AT-earthlink.net> TK:>>> Or do pantyhose just get extruded like sausages? -------------- Terri, This subject of this thread reminds me of a Monty Python skit from long long ago. They come in a variety of colors. At Easter time they always stocked blue, pink and yellow. Check out Dollor stores. Whenever I had a residency at a school I put out a call for panty hose and ended up with more than I needed. Try Costco, Target and similar stores as well. Colored panty hose is in. Just find the cheap kind........ Bruce >Hi folks, > >Every year my mother in law does this "chick on a stick" Easter puppet >thing. She always calls me looking for yellow panty hose.
