I don't think that some of the reponses were elitist or insulting or
suggesting "non-worthiness".
It is unfortuneate if people defensively mis -read it like that.
The "artists" and puppetry professionals on this list and in my general
experience are not only helpful but supportive. What was being said (I
think) is why not develope your own (style).
What is a matter with that?
Any kind of discipline is always a leading to kind of thing...a process (I
believe) imitation and then growth are all part of it. But it is important
(I think) to find your own vision at some point. Even if that is built on a
base of what came before.(Think it has to be built on that base). Why
reinvet the wheel?

My stage today is nothing like it was when I started out. But it has all
come from playing with a Martin Steven's design. And today I would have to
point out the elements and what I learned from working with that design. (My
partner still uses that original stage).
It was a leading to experience.

I have gained at different times from people talking about mache (which I
use now (since the death of celastic) for almost everything!).
I believe it was Kismet who turned me onto Powetex which I use for some
things.
Are we ever too developed not to learn?

The criterea that (I think) needs to be used is does it work? Does it read?
Can I do it? Do I resonate with it? Does it express what I want it to
express.
There are so many different styles and approaches......

I have been performing for 30 years, have been building for 30 years -was
trained as an actor - yet always feel that am at the beginning. And that is
true....
I know that a lot of the extremely experienced folk out there feel the same
way.

Experience however is a great learning tool that also leads to something
else.

And of course there is always the delete button which I liberally use.
