Philly and DC are not on the tour schedule for Bunraku this year. Washington DC was originally considered for this year`s tour, but--for the first time ever--the tour is being funded and organized entirely from the US side, so there was much preliminary negotiating and several cities that were orginally candidates for a stop on the tour had to drop out for inability to secure enough financial backing. (The cost was about a quarter of a million dollars for each venue.) The Champaign-Urbana tickets sold out within a few days of going on sale. I have not heard yet about Chicago. I am in Japan right now and saw all three of the shows at the National Bunraku Theater in Osaka last week. I can attest that they are indeed worth seeing if you can get a ticket. Just a note: This will be at least the second or third time Bunraku has been in the US since 1983. I interpreted for Living National Treasure, Yoshida Minosuke, at a press conference in San Francisco on their tour in 1988 or 1989.
