The problem with regular hiking backpacks (designed to distribute a 
heavy load across your shoulders and upper body without altering your 
center of gravity too much) is that they tend to be kind of tipsy once 
the center of grav start to get to high above your head, That is, 
unless you strap yourself into them like an astronaut ,  with 
bandoleer-type straps across your chest (and even then they're 
guaranteed to go loosey-goosey  on you just when your getting  jiggy 
with the damn thing.)

Years ago one summer at a Bread and Puppet DRC, I designed an 
experimental "front-pack" for an enormously top-heavy, solo giant 
puppet.  I  subsequently promised my back (which still spazzes out at 
the memory of that "Phobic" puppet) that I would never, Never,  NEVER!! 
  repeat that experiment.
