But my impish side wanted to stir things a bit. You know I'm always up for a new passionate debate. Such ideas and references come forth, we can all learn from it all! As long as we don't get too "sensitive" and take every comment as a personal attack. We we do get attacked, we can defend ourselves with respect and keep the conversation going. I learned that in a painting class. When a student was outraged that we were (in her opinioin) unfairly "trashing" another's work in a group critique, the teacher got angry and explained how important it was to not be affraid to express our opinions. We were analizying what was in front of us, not speculating or accusing, and that nothing the artist could say would change what he visually was able to put on the canvas. No fancy concept or "intent" could save a weak composition, a weak palette, and the unclarity of the symbols he used to carry his message, which no one were able to decipher. I used to think object puppetry was not real puppetry, and quite ugly. Until I saw a successful show of it, of course. Now I like it and want to integrate some of it into my work. Live and learn. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
