Japan's puppet Mecca town Iida has just finished banging the annual festival gong, and there's colorful news. A rather nice Museum has been built and opened to feature the elegant puppet casts of some tv period dramas. They're the handy work of Kihachiro Kawamoto. Goggle that name for English info on him if you like his stuff. The puppets are mostly maybe 12 -14 inches tall, and have vent-like heads, with moving mouths, and sometimes moving eyes and eyebrows. They're posed sans rods. The main show was "Sangokushi", about the wars of the Three Kingdoms of ancient China. Testosterone drenched, but lovely. No English site for the museum, but the pics are here: http://www.city.iida.nagano.jp/puppet/kawamoto/puppet/index.html -G _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-lists.driftline.org Admin interface: http://lists.driftline.org/listinfo.cgi/puptcrit-driftline.org Archives: http://www.driftline.org
