From that structure down to your ankles, you can construct basically a huge pair of pants that attach to the bottom edge of your rigid booth, with velcro, snaps or any means you like. This will give you lots of mobility. And with the rigid part starting above your waist, you'll have the additional ability to twist, turn and bend. We worked with such a design for years very successfully. Also, if you make the pants come in tight to your ankles with elastic, any puppets you happen to accidentally drop inside the booth aren't lost, they're just somewhere down around your ankles, and if you're agile enough you can retrieve them.
