 >>> I suppose there are some folks who would argue that there is no
such thing as art without some kind of agenda in it somewhere.....
but like you, I think there is such a thing as creative exploration
for the thrill of doing it... without calculations on marketability
attached. That's my definition of " art for Art's sake ."

Michael, Right now I'm doing a piece that I wrote from a recurring
dream. There were other influences too, but the dream is important. I
wrote it while I was sick in bed. The idea was strong enough for me
to go ahead with it without understanding it! It's still not all the
way clear, and that's just the best. I'm still learning from it.

Sometimes I will execute a piece that I think I understand and it
turns out to be about something else.

But I have to admit that I'm a part timer, I only do puppetry in my
spare time. My favorite situation is to have a little show after
dinner with friends. I get paid a bit now and then, but it's
completely different than trying to make a living at it. I can afford
to indulge myself and do odd shows in odd venues for the fun of it.
Maybe if I hang around this list long enough I'll learn enough to go
pro.

best,
Ed A
