Subject: [Puptcrit] Sha Sha Higby

Just a little bit more about Sha Sha.
I met her in Korea, at the annual "Asian Monodrama Festival", which
features solo performances. It's put together by an old guy who has
made a folk arts museum in the central countryside, and also produces
a festival of Korean Shamanism. After several annual cycles of the
Monodrama Festival, Sha Sha was the first non-Asian ever to be
invited to perform. The very surreal nature of her performance made
it engrossing, intensely interesting to me. But the torturously slow
pace and lack of apparent story line also made it somewhat
challenging, more art than entertainment. This is not theater for
everyone, but I'd love to see more. Judging from her resume, I'm not
alone.
She is, indeed, fairly introverted. While I don't know her well, I
have a hard time imagining her as a fluid speaker in a public forum.
The comment suggesting this was not surprising. I suppose no amount
of words could possibly add up experiencing the other worldliness of
the show.
