Thank you, that is exactly the kind of material I am looking for.
I will investigate further on the books mentioned and ask that
anyone else with information like this please feel free to throw
in your two cents.

I am less concerned with the pedigree, although I completely
agree with what Steve said about it, than I am in the accuracy
of the historical root.

Interestingly what Steve and Alan wrote me about the child and the
Doll is echoed in the research I have been doing on ningyo joruri.
Because it's root was door to door puppet plays with Hand puppets
and sometimes with Doll figures.
