Subject: [Puptcrit] DC event this saturday

If you are in the DC area and not busy this Saturday (the 8th), swing
on by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. They are having their
open house from Noon to 7 p.m. The theme is "Underground Circus" and
most, if not all, of the shows and events are FREE! There are lots of
circus type activities and shows to see from many areas of the country,
plus a bit of puppetry. Look for yours truly performing my puppet show
"Travelin' Jack & Co." (three times) on the North Plaza, as well as
doing a little stilt walking in the parade with our life size tiger
marionette. If you come, be sure to say hello even if you don't catch
one of my shows.
Here's a few of the things you could see (besides me):
The Perfect Unknowns - rock 'n roll circus troupe
Russian American Kids Circus - European circus magic
The 7 Fingers - theater, dance, music, & acrobatics
     The Zany Umbrella Circus -
     Jessie White Tumbling Team -
Nicolo and the Queen of Whimsey - juggling and comedy (I think)
     The National Symphony Orchestra
Imagination Movers - high energy fun
     The Suzanne Farrell Ballet
and much, much more.

I know if I wasn't part of the day, I'd want to be there anyway since I
have a background in circus as well as puppetry. My only regret (and
it's a small one) is that I will be performing so much there that I
won't have much of a chance to see many of the other shows, not that I
could make it to half of them anyway. There is so much going on that
you will have to pick and choose. Anybody have a temporary cloning
machine?

I look forward to the event, but also with a tiny bit of trepidation
as they asked that I do my show in the booth they used for their recent
production of "Carnival." I won't get a chance to see the inside of the
booth until I get there, so am not quite sure what adjustments I will
need to make. At least I will be using my puppets and stories. The show
I am doing has some flexibility, so hopefully it will go smoothly. What
ever the set up, I plan to have fun and make the best of it. Hey, it's
the Kennedy Center. I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
