A little more information on what happened to "Buffalo Bob" Smith after
Howdy Doody went off the air (and before he found a new career making
appearances at shopping malls, etc.):

I grew up in New Rochelle, New York, and during the 1960's-70's, Bob Smith
ran a liquor store on North Avenue in the northern part of town.  No one
seemed to particularly care anymore about his previous career.

His brother was very popular though, as he ran a Stride Rite shoe store
across the street, and all the neighborhood kids & their moms shopped
there.

Fame is fleeting.
