I'm using a dense cardboard which I like very much for durability & rigidity, but it's hell to cut. Managing the outside edges ok with Xacto knife, going thru a number of blades, but the inner design apertures are very difficult. I don't need the elaborate lacework patterns of Indonesian shadows, but I do need clean lines, curves, & points. I tried several tips on a woodburner that's adverised as good for cutting stencils, thinking "well, don't cut it, burn it," but it's very very slow. For the next project I could indeed go to a lighter grade of cardboard or something else, but I'm kinda irrationally addicted to the feel of this material. So I wanted to find out if there are any tools I'm not aware of: any knives for fine work that are better than Xacto? any type of punches that would work on cardboard? tiny trainable termites? Any suggestions welcome.
