You can use them on leather or cardboard. They are fantastic!!! I use 4-ply black mat board or museum board for my puppets, which is relatively easy to cut with an X-acto knife. It's sufficiently rigid, unless the puppet is over 2 feet tall, in which case I reinforce it with a dowel or wire.
