*CALL FOR AUDITIONS*



Performers / Creative Contributors* to work on **Home and Away**, the new
project from PuppUTopiate. *



An open-ended practice-as-research project, *Home and Away* will confront
themes related to moving from the outlying regions (of the world, of a
country, of a province or state, of a city) to the supposed center. *Home
and Away* will evolve through a series of devising sessions, taking a
collaborative creation approach towards developing a new puppet and object
theatre work for performance.



Produced and hosted by the Graduate Centre for the Study of Drama at the
University of Toronto, *Home and Away *will develop November through March
and culminate in final *performances March 12 - 16th*. The initiative is
embedded in the research goals of University of Toronto PhD student James
Ashby. James and his puppet troupe, *PuppUTopiate* lead the project.



Successful applicants will become "Journeymen Devisers" and will engage with
the development process as key contributors and performers. Rehearsals will
be a series of devising sessions, an opportunity for creating new puppet
characters and short vignettes towards the final production. No prior
puppeteer experience is necessary, however a strong interest in puppet
theatre, movement, character and improvisation is an asset.



  Auditions are being held *Saturday November 24th *from *1-3pm* at the UofT
Drama Center. Instead of a monologue or cold reading, auditioners will
participate in a group devising session indicative of *Home and Away*'s
rehearsal process. To participate in this audition, you are required to
bring with you *two *objects: one object that represents "home" however you
choose to interpret "home", and the other representing "away". Participants
should wear clothing that accommodates movement.

project, as well as your resume. No headshots needed. Please note that this
project is non-equity/non-paying.
