Subject: [Puptcrit] kid audiences 1940s


We all know how much better life was in the olden days (During the Great Depression years, bread was 15 cents a loaf but few had income, my Grandma rented a whole house for $50 a month and took in boarders, and all children were well behaved, minded their parents, were quiet at concerts and religious services, etc., etc.)

EXCEPT at the Saturday morning cartoon shows at the Rialto Theater in South Pasadena CA. You did not see a lot of parents there. There was  residual noise the minute you entered the theatre, and the minute the lights went off and the screen lit up with a Mickey Mouse cartoon, there was a loud roar from the audience, during the first 3 or four cartoons, so loud that you could not HEAR the soundtrack. 

That used to annoy me every time because I went to enjoy the program of cartoon animation, while a vast majority of kids went to yell and make a lot of noise until their lungs gave out, and only then, did they sit back and actually watch and HEAR the cartoons.

So even though we were perfect in olden days, we weren't THAT perfect.

Basically it happened that way because kids were allowed to do that, even then.

Just thought I'd throw this into the discussion for a little perspective.
