Hi Mathieu,

Just read your pupcrit about the interview, I hope it goes well! (I suggest
you wear whichever hat makes you look more like an excentric genius).
Also I really like the sound of your one-man show. It's nice when you have
the time to allow things to develop organically, rather than force ideas or
decisions to work. It sounds like you're at a great starting point, it will
be great to see your idea grow.
One idea that sprang to my mind when you said "suitcase show" is that it
might be fun to include the suitcase itself into the act. You could make it
look tatty/ mysterious/ well-travelled/ intriguing, so that it fits in with
your storyteller character. Perhaps you could even add a face into the
stitching/creases of the bag, you could give it a moving mouth and eyes like
your talking picture, it could tell stories of things that it's seen on it's
travels perhaps... maybe things it has seen that no one else has noticed..?
Also, have you considered the possibility of pop-up props? Awhile ago I met
a comedian who has a manic musical double-act, which uses lots of props (
http://tinyurl.com/2pyoyo ). He said to me that he would love to have silly
things like a full-size volcano, but he doesn't drive either, so he needs
things to be small. After speaking with him I was inspired to try and make a
pop-up volcano for him.. I only got so far as the maquette, but I think it
worked quite well, and on a big scale could be really impressive. (I was
planning to make the big version from wire and lamenated red tissue, and
have glowing LEDs inside.. could look pretty good in dimmed lighting).
Detailed pop-up things need planning and experiementation, but something
like that could really add magic and mystery to your show.
Good luck with the interview anyway!
