Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] O'neill Puppetry Conference announcement

Hi Mark:

It would 'seem' that the requirements to be accepted at O'Neill are rather
severe and to some, intimidating.
Despite the language of the application, I can tell you that this is one of
the most welcoming and supportive group of people I've ever worked with.
I can also attest to the fact that the MOST important quality for ANY
applicant to possess is a strong DESIRE to learn more about good puppetry. Trust me.

The purpose for requesting this much information is simply to give Bobbie
Nidzgorski, our General Manager, as much information about the applicants as
possible so that she can make the best choices / matches for the applicants and
the conference as a whole. It isn't possible to hold personal interviews, since
our applicants come from all parts of the world. At times, a phone call will
make the difference.

Bobbie is careful to make sure that the 'fit,' especially for the applicant,
is good. It's important to all of us that participants get the most they can
from the conference. It works the other way as well. The people who make up the
participant list are critical to the success of the conference. The many
shared backgrounds and experiences that evidence themselves during the conference
give the O'Neill Puppetry Conference its dynamic, and contribute to it's
success.

In the past, we have accepted applications from folks who have had no
experience in puppetry but who felt that the conference might add to their frame of
reference. In these situations, Bobbie will often discuss the possibilities
over the phone.

It really is friendlier than it appears. It really is easier than you think.
Last year's conference was the largest ever. Many of our participants were
repeats.
We have had some folks tell us that the OPC was a 'life-changing'
experience.
On the other hand, for some, it may not have been.

It's entirely possible that some on this Puptcrit list have attended. It
might be nice to hear from some of them. And of course, you can contact Bobbie
(oneillpupconf-AT-aol.com) to find out more.

I would be happy to respond to any questions you may have.

All the Best,
Fred T.
