Mary,
It's delightful to find something (especially a mech) that exists that  
I don't have to build or tool to get to work.

Recently, I found a hard case for golf clubs at K-Mart -- very  
economical at $40, and great for certain puppets.

Little things like carborator clamps are great for attaching rods to  
arms/

Of course, there's the ubiquitous umbrella ...

any other objects with hidden uses out there?
