I think YouTube/web video/etc. is one of the best things to have happened to
puppetry in a long time because it's made it so easy for almost anyone to
distribute their work on global scale at little to no cost.

Virtually any modern video camera these days will give you a fantastic
picture if you're outputting to YouTube, the web, etc. The most important
thing is lighting (followed probably by audio). If you go to almost any
professional photography store you can buy a set of three 500w 'scoop' or
photo flood lights that work great for video for about $150 (I recommend
buying the 500w lights over the 250w because the 500s seem to be more
durable). If that's too much for anyone's budget ebay is a great source of
cheap used fixtures.

It's also a good idea to understand 3 point lighting (if you don't already
