Subject: [Puptcrit] Theatre Research Assistant Call

Dear friends of the puppet,

The project I am working on (in the Toronto area) has one position
left to fill. We could also use some volunteer puppetbuilders, if you
would like to lend a hand.

Thanks!

Jamie Ashby

BA, MA, PhD Candidate, Graduate Centre for Study of Drama, University
of Toronto: "Ideas in Motion: New Work Development at Puppetmongers
Theatre Company"
Cofounder and Co-Artistic Director, PuppUTopiate, the only puppet
theatre company based at the University of Toronto
Member-at-Large, Ontario Puppetry Association Board of Trustees

Open Call: Theatre Research Assistant

Home and Away, a collaboratively created puppet and movement theatre
project, is being presented by the Graduate Centre for Study of Drama,
University of Toronto, March 12 =96 16, 2008. This project is being led
by PhD student Jamie Ashby, co-artistic director of PuppUTopiate, the
only puppet theatre company based at the University of Toronto. Jamie
is researching collective creation and puppetry for his thesis and is
developing an exciting new creative process that is being used to
create an original puppet and physical theatre work that addresses the
related themes of "home" and "away" (or "not home").

We are currently looking for someone with mini-DV video recording
experience to document the rehearsal process using both a digital
video camera (which will be provided at no cost to the successful
candidate) and more traditional notetaking. The successful candidate
might also be asked to do a small amount of research in a library or
on the Internet.

This position might appeal to a theatre or psychology student
interested in witnessing the trials and triumphs of a collaborative
process firsthand. It might also appeal to those studying television
production, communication theory, or media studies generally. The
footage recorded and the notes taken would primarily be used as
rehearsal aids, although they will also be invaluable research aids
for Jamie, who will give the research assistant appropriate credit in
both the programme for the performance and his published thesis.

This position, like the rest for the project, is non-Equity and
non-paying; however, you will be involved in a challenging and unique
process that leaves room for creative contributions from everyone
involved, and you will get to meet some very interesting people,
including Jamie's thesis supervisor, Dr. Bruce Barton, who has worked
as a dramaturg for Number Eleven Theatre, Zuppa Circus, and Bluemouth
Inc., and Lori Nancy Kalamanski, who, having worked with Theatre
Gargantua, is helping us to develop the story. The time commitment is
about 6-8 hours a week, and we rehearse on the downtown (St. George)
campus of the University of Toronto.

Please send a letter of interest and a résumé to
whereisyourhome-AT-yahoogroups.ca in order to be considered for this
position.
