True, I prefer the paid date as the real impetus, but I am not opposed to the private, unpaid test performances (note the plural) in front of live audiences prior to that paid date. It should be done and ready for that test audience, but changes can still be made before the paid dates. The test audience could be Guild members, a freebie somewhere that you often do show (not in her case, as she is just starting), family and friends, or even a day school or church group that doesn't have a real budget for a show. In the last case, I would tell them it is a brand new show and because you are testing it out, you are only asking for some sort of honorarium. Future shows would not be at that rate. Nice way to get your foot in the door, assuming that you feel your show is ready for at least a test audience.
