Until the set up becomes semi-automatic I like to have that extra time. Once it I am used to the set up time, I don't like to arrive with any more than 15 minutes extra (set up time plus 15 minutes) prior to the time they will let the audience in. Even if I am in the area, I will find something away from the venue until it gets closer to the time for me to set up. The exception of course is if something broke at the last place and I couldn't fix it before loading out.
