Subject: Re: [Puptcrit] so-called Christian puppets

It's interesting to read everyone's thoughts on the subject of wide
mouth/Muppet-like puppets over the weekend, because I've been thinking about
this lately. I think if you work with almost any kind of foam hand-and-rod
or "live arm" puppet, comparisons to the Muppet style are almost impossible
to avoid, especially since they've worked in so many different visual styles
over the years.

I recently started working on a project that I had originally thought of in
high school (it was what first got me interested in puppetry) and at the
time The Muppets and the work of those trained by them were almost the only
puppetry I knew so, almost inevitably, I designed very derivative-looking
Muppet-like puppets. Now working on the same project again about 15 years
later I'm stuck working with those old designs and yet somehow trying to
make them more original looking.

I wrote a few thoughts about this at
http://www.bear-town.com/blog/2008/02/figurenschneider-and-no-antron-fleece.htmltonight
for anyone interested.
