Well, from a purely technical standpoint, Puppetry is limitless. Human actors can't fly, can't be killed on stage (not without dire consequences for the perpetrator), can't remove a limb for a performance, while puppets can do all these things and more. We discussed it here on Puptcrit a few times before. Just today, Gavin Glover from Faulty Optics, giving a short conference, answered the same question from an audience member who was not in Puppetry. He also added that, since puppetry has no limits, it also means it is all the more difficult, because of all the choices you have to make. I'll add that we can change the whole scale at will, many times during the same show! One cannot understand the WHY before one has seen, experienced a good puppet show. At first I was just intrigued by those stange animated figures, and wanted to make some myself. But after I experienced a show, something deep in me vibrated with a tremendous echo: YES! this is what I want to do! Such magic, such boundless expressive power! I'll stop now, for fear of words diluting the meaning. Better go to a good, highly recommended show, that's what I recommend. ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Puppetry Arts Theatre" <info-AT-puppetryarts.org> To: <puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org> Sent: Thursday, February 21, 2008 11:49 AM Subject: [Puptcrit] The risk of it all... > Two questions for you puppet lovers out there... > > This is in reference to THEATRE- NOT children's theatre, not movies or TV. > > 1- how is using puppetry pioneering or risk taking in today's traditional > theatre?
