For really big eyes that moved up and down,  I once used some cheap 
halloween costume props: a prisoner's ball and chain. All black plastic. I 
removed the chain. No paint was sticking to it, I tried most types! Then...
I covered the balls in white paper mache strips, and painted them white 
again so it would have a smoother finish.
Paper mache is such a savior! if only more people knew how to do it right!

I'm thinking that some artificial plants and flowers have pretty groovy 
eye-worthy material.
Especially for weird alien beings and monsters...

Oh, and as a kid, I made this fun robot, and its eyes were simply a pair of 
wheels from a toy truck.
Good times.
