Subject: [Puptcrit] Kuruma Ningyo in Washington DC 2008

Hearing from you reminded me that I should tell you about the next
Kuruma Ningyo event in the U.S.

The puppeteers will be in Washington, DC, during this year's Cherry
Blossom Festival, together with shinnai master Tsuruga Wakasanojo XI
(Living National Treasure), the same narrator as you heard in Florida.

The performance is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12^th , at
the Meyer Auditorium of the Freer and Sackler Galleries (Smithsonian
Institutions), Jefferson Drive at 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC.
Tickets for the event are free (limited to two tickets per person).
Tickets must be requested from the Freer.

A very special feature of this event is that Wakasanojo will be
performing shinnai in English. His hope is that this will make the charm
of shinnai more accessible for non-Japanese.

In addition, there will be a lecture-demonstration on puppetry on
Friday, April 11^th , at noon.

Detailed information about these events, including an explanation of how
to obtain tickets, is available at:

Or call the Gallery at (202) 633-4880.

More information about the performers is available on the Internet from
the web site of their 2007 tour in the U.S.:

I'd be grateful if you'd disseminate information about this event to
your list(s).
