Gee Mary.....

I think I've been waiting about 50 years for a woman to ask that question !
I tell my girlfriend, there are three magic words that pretty much describe most aspects of what men do , and why they do it :

They are, " Male performance Anxiety ".
Think for a minute how ANY straight man in the artistic professions ( i.e., generally low paid ) feels, surrounded by a world full of women who have no shame in celebrating a man/his worth, with the terms, " good provider ". This is as degrading to any man as any woman feels when she is being valued as a sexpot. We have periodic shows on the television about ambitious, successful women ... celebrating their achievement, or their legitimacy for lack of a better word. As it should be,too. But show me anything that grants dignity and worth to a man who doesn't shag bucks. Something that celebrates him for those.... oh my gosh, feminine values ( not my term but I think you catch my point ) that might be there too. I doubt you'll find much of that anywhere.... but rather, ridicule or contempt for men who don't define themselves by their (successful ) careers.

There is so much anger and resentment in many men still... because men's liberation, if it is the flip side to women's liberation ( which I'm 100% in favor of ) has never taken place.
When women start celebrating men for being more than bread winners, when they convey true equality in their expectations of what is "fair " in a work place where either sex can earn equally and can/should have equal rights to family access, etc., then you would probably find that they are not much different at the end of the day than women. Of course there are a good number of women and men out there who are transcending the rigid roles I'm describing. But as a society, it seems to me that we are still a long way from allowing people of all genders the right to be defined outside the stereotypes.

Good for you that you care to ask !

       Michael

Ok, all you puppet guys out , because there are so many of you out there, I
thought maybe I could ask this question and get some understanding. Please
feel free to either respond privately or publicly as there may be other
women on this list with the same question.

Here goes! Why is it so difficult to find a man who can connect with a woman
on all levels: mental, spiritual, and physical?

Thanks, guys....
