Hi Linda,

The point definitely wasn't to get everyone to be
depressed. It was to try to see if as a community we
might be pro active and work together a bit to
discuss, discover, possibly formulate, some useful
tactics to help everyone survive a less than ideal
economic time.

I have to admit, and I have written this privately
to another puppeteer, that I find it a bit boggling.
We are such an community when it comes to design,
style, building, and performance tips, that when it
comes to the possibility of not doing well with a
business, or possible sharing business practices that
we have found successful, we are all a bit hesitant.

Not to say that there is no sharing, there are always
one or two folks who step up, but rarely more than that.
This is a time when all of our businesses large and small
are being, and will be tried from so many directions, that
I thought it might be interesting if we came together as a
community to see if it was possible to help as many of us
as possible to survive it.

Ren Art is a 501 (C) 3, but has had horrendous luck with outside
Grant writers. So one of the things we are doing is sending
one of our Ensemble (who has some business background) through
a Grant Writing course at one of the local colleges. The hope
is that if we have a writer on staff, who benefits long term
to their work, they will be a bit more enthusiastic in their
representation of our work.

And as Rolande mentioned, we have started doing more Cold calling
with other organizations and schools.

Anyone else care to walk to the end of the plank and jump in?

Best,

Liz
