Is the central theme to the Punch and Judy show really about gender  
issues? I know people have used it for that, but I always thought it  
was more about Punch getting the best of everyone. Punch always wins.
He even overcomes Death (and in some versions, the Devil).
He is Supreme Anarchy -- the force against which no authority figure  
has authority.
