Fred,
I am with you on trying to work "beyond your own style". I always find
myself coming back to similar faces or bodytypes when I make a puppet. My
wifw calls me "The Cutifier" because at the end of the day, even the
nastiness of characters I have created tend to look a bit cute. It is a
problem I am trying to work on but, hey, it has been a style worked out for
me for the last 14 years.

Hi Jon:

I'm with you.....
They had some info on their website but I don't recall hearing or reading
that they ever came here.

Some folks here have gone to Europe to study the Czech method of marionette
making but I do not know the company name. I think Yvette Edery made mention
recently of the people she studied with. If it's the same company, she's
indeed
very fortunate.

Each person has his own style and I have mine. I think I do OK, but when I
see such inspired designs which truly exploit the potential of the puppet, I
realize just how uptight I am with my own work.
And I am finding that it's VERY difficult to shed one's style. I am not a
kid...LOL (Understatement...)
Whatever esthetic I have been blessed with has a REAL power of its own, and
I
find that when I attempt to circumvent what comes so naturally and easy to
me, it's a real struggle. I wonder if it's just me?

These puppets have such a magical quality and really speak to me.

FWIW.

Fred T.
