Subject: [Puptcrit] getting press -- feature articles, tv / radio interviews,

Here in MA, most towns have a community newspaper. When our library
or a church group is having a puppeteer, we can send out a press
release with photo to those in the area and most will get printed.
Also we will send in a calendar brief to a paper like the Boston
Globe and those community papers in our area that just has the basics.

I do this for the folk venue I run and for other groups. Many in our
area do this, but need a good press kit to basically lift
paragraphs and quotes from, since the PR for most volunteer
organizations is done by overworked volunteers. Also good easily
downloaded clear jpg photos are needed. Sending the organization a
good poster (not too big) and a photo they can post on their
bulletin boards.

Collecting email addresses at shows is a great way to get fans to
know you are coming to their area. Don't send to those in Seattle if
you are appearing in NY, so group by location.

I'd like to ask how people go about getting press,
i.e. feature articles / interviews, etc. for their
puppetry performances? My experience has been very
hit-or-miss and I'm wondering what approach has been
successful for others.

Thanks,
Michael
